The Colorado Buffaloes' game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers this past weekend wasn't relatively close, seeing a 28-10 victory for the latter.

In particular, quarterback Shedeur Sanders struggled against the Cornhusker defense. He completed 23 of 38 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown and an interception, but he was sacked five times as Colorado were unable to stop Nebraska on both sides of the ball.

This showing was a significant downgrade from his dominant performance in the season opener against North Dakota State, completing 26 of 34 passes for 445 yards and four touchdowns and one interception.

Shedeur is coming off a 2023 campaign where he was the undisputed heart of the Buffaloes offense. He completed 298 of 430 passes for 3,230 yards and 27 touchdowns and three interceptions.

This year, he remains central to Colorado's success offensively. So far, he has been successful on 49 of 72 throws for 689 yards and five touchdowns and two interceptions.

But an unremarkable performance against a better opponent in Nebraska brings concern for Sanders and the Buffaloes, currently 1-1 on the season. They are looking to improve from the 4-8 record they had last year and wins against teams like Nebraska are crucial to their goal of becoming a potential powerhouse in college football.

Sanders broke his silence after the loss on Monday, posting on X (formerly Twitter) a four-word message that would reach not only the team but their fans as well.

"new week lets work," he said.

Not much else needs to be said on what the post indicates, especially with Sanders refocusing on what's at stake for him and the team: getting back on the win column.

It is also a very fitting statement from a player who was one of the most clutch quarterbacks in the nation, being named the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year by the Associated Press, first-team All-Transfer by On3 and The Athletic and All-Pac-12 honorable mention by the coaches and College Football Network. The team's leader is indeed heeding the criticism and will attempt to respond strong.

Colorado returns to their home state, but will be playing in a different stadium as they face Colorado State on Sept. 14 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
