NFL Insiders Provide Critical Injury Update On Christian McCaffrey

After being listed as questionable during practice this past week due to a calf/Achilles issue, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey's status for their Week 1 game against the New York Jets was revealed.

According to NFL insiders Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport, McCaffrey will not be able to play. The news comes just days after he gave a blunt response of "no" when asked by the media if there were any doubts that he would be playing against the Jets. It also came about an hour prior to the two teams taking the field at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Leading up to the game, it seemed as if McCaffrey himself thought he'd be in the lineup. When talking to ESPN this past week, he revealed that he was hopeful of having his usual workload when the 49ers took on the Jets on "Monday Night Football."

In 2023, McCaffrey played a major role in the 49ers making it back to the Super Bowl. He was not only named AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year, but also led the league in rushing yards and was named an All-Pro for the third time of his career.

In his absence, the 49ers are expected to turn to third-year running back Jordan Mason. In his two seasons in San Francisco, Mason has accumulated 83 carries for 464 yards and four touchdowns.

According to ESPN, the 49ers are 3.5-point favorites and have a 63.1% chance of beating Aaron Rodgers and the Jets.
