The San Francisco 49ers drew first blood against the New York Jets in the Monday Night Football opener, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first five minutes.

The field goal came after All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner forced a Breece Hall fumble on a first down in Jets territory, giving the 49ers possession in field goal range.

Following the fumble, a three-yard rush by Deebo Samuel and two-straight incompletions from quarterback Brock Purdy caused the 49ers offense to bring out kicker Jake Moody for the 46-yard field goal. Moody was able to nail the kick, giving San Francisco the early 3-0 lead with 11:03 remaining in the first quarter.

Despite a crucial early mistake from Hall, the Jets defense held strong, and they have allowed just 11 total yards from Purdy and the 49ers offense through their first two drives.

On the other side of the ball, Hall's fumble was a rare mistake for the young running back, as it was just the second lost fumble of his career, his first coming in NFL debut in 2022.

The Jets will now take over possession once again looking to take advantage against the 49ers who will be without star running back Christian McCaffrey, who was ruled out just hours before the game with a calf injury. The team will also look to get quarterback Aaron Rodgers more involved, who has only thrown just two passes through his first two drives.
