After working his inaugural youth basketball camp, Dallas Mavericks forward PJ Washington expressed his excitement in an interview about the upcoming NBA season and the opportunity to build chemistry with the team’s new roster.

Looking ahead to the Mavericks' training camp in Las Vegas, Washington emphasized the importance of building chemistry with his new teammates. To jumpstart that process, a core group including Washington, Klay Thompson, Quentin Grimes, Dereck Lively II, and Markieff Morris organized a player-led “mini-camp.”

Additionally, Washington has been intentional about strengthening off-court relationships, joining Lively and Daniel Gafford on a visit to the University of Arkansas to reconnect with his former college coach, John Calipari.

Washington emphasized how these early bonding experiences have been conducive for team chemistry, which he believes will help them compete at the highest level this season.

"I’m excited to mesh with those guys and see how good we can be. I believe we can win it all, and that’s our goal," Washington said in a recent interview . He reflected on how rare it is for NBA teams to have such early chemistry-building opportunities, calling the trip and time spent together "great."

Coming off his first postseason experience, in which he averaged 13 points and 6.6 rebounds while shooting 34 percent from deep, Washington is focused on expanding his skill set. His offseason workouts are aimed at improving his ball handling, rebounding, and playmaking to make him a more versatile weapon on the court.

Specifically, Washington is working on becoming a more effective three-level scorer, finishing through contact, and shooting off the dribble.

"I’m just trying to be a better playmaker," Washington said, underscoring his commitment to contributing in all areas as the Mavericks pursue their championship ambitions.

As Washington enters his sixth NBA season, he is excited to see how the Mavericks’ new group will come together, and he remains determined to help lead the team to success. Washington’s commitment to building both on-court chemistry and off-court bonds reflects his determination to help lead the Mavericks toward another deep playoff run and, ultimately, a championship.
