$77 Million Star Admits He Considered Joining Philadelphia 76ers This Summer

The Philadelphia 76ers have had quite the offseason. They landed their top target in Paul George, handing him a four-year, $212 million deal. Other than that, they also added key players like Caleb Martin, Andre Drummond and more while keeping their core together.

If Nick Nurse is able to make the jigsaw pieces fit, the 76ers should be Championship contenders for the foreseeable future.

In George, they have a veteran superstar looking to win his first Championship. Embiid is arguably the best player in the world when healthy. And Tyrese Maxey is well on his way to superstardom.

It looks like another high-profile name considered joining the 76ers this summer before eventually settling on the Sacramento Kings.

We are talking about none other than DeMar DeRozan. The 6-time All-Star left the Chicago Bulls this summer and has admitted that Philly was an option on his mind.

While appearing on the latest episode of Podcast P with Paul George , DeRozan said: "I was thinking about Philly. Philly definitely was an option. Lakers was an option, always. Clippers was an option. And the Heat was an option."

Ultimately, DeRozan settled on the Kings, a decision that came down to his desire to win. He is believed to have signed a three-year, $77 million deal with them.

Someone like DeRozan could have contributed to the 76ers for sure but once George arrived, one would have to think that pulling that move off would have been nearly impossible, even with the mountain of cap space that the Sixers had.

If George had not ended up in Philadelphia this summer, one might have expected the 76ers to make a serious play for DeRozan.
