Guyton vs. Garrett: 'Competed His Ass Off!' In Debut

It was billed as a baptism of fire for Dallas Cowboys rookie left tackle Tyler Guyton, but he emerged from his Week 1 debut against the Cleveland Browns with positive reviews.

With Guyton expected to be matched up against the reigning Defensive Player of the Year in Myles Garrett, Guyton acquitted himself well aside from one rep when Garrett swiveled past him and forced a fumble from Dak Prescott.

But other than that, Tyler had himself a good outing in Cleveland and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer liked what he saw from Guyton.

“He competed his ass off against a really good challenge,” Schottenheimer said. “Myles [Garrett] is going to get the edge on a lot of people, but I love his competitiveness, he would come over and the guy loves to be coached, he had some really good sets with him playing in the noise and having to get off on the cadence. Overall I thought as the game flow started going, you saw him begin to become more and more confident and that's a tough job. Playing left tackle in this league, on the road against one of the best edge rushers in the league, he did a nice job, and he'll continue to get better.”

With Guyton matched up against Garrett for a total of 13 snaps , and he didn't allow pressures on nine of them, that's about as good as Dallas could have hoped for.

In a hostile environment, against a ferocious pass rush, Guyton showed he is more than capable of playing at the NFL level.

Now, after a solid debut, Guyton has to continue to bank good performances, and with Dak Prescott liking to air the football out in Mike McCarthy's offense, Tyler will need to keep his quarterback upright.

If he can do it against Garrett, that bodes well for Guyton protecting Dak moving forward.
