Michigan's football team faced Texas in a challenging matchup, and the Wolverines aimed to make a statement right from the start. On their opening play, they opted for a three-receiver formation, positioning running back Donovan Edwards out wide to catch the Longhorns off guard and break the scoreless deadlock. Unfortunately, for the Wolverines, flags flew and they were forced to alter their play call.

“Quite frankly, we were going to start the game with a pass on first to open it up there,” Michigan offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell, the team’s play caller, said Monday night on the “Inside Michigan Football” radio show. “And then we’re first-and-15 and we’ve got to get the guys calmed down a little bit and ran the ball twice.”

Despite their efforts, turnovers proved costly for Michigan, impacting their performance significantly. The coaching staff, including offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell and head coach Sherrone Moore, are now focused on addressing these mistakes as they prepare for upcoming games.

“If we go down and score at the end of the first half instead of turning it over, it’s a one-possession game going into halftime,” Campbell said. “That’s really how you’ve got to look at it. Because we really hurt ourselves in that game on Saturday, and we’ve got to make sure we have a heightened sense of awareness that we can’t do that this Saturday.”

“This week we need to make sure we start off faster and are able to take the game to Arkansas State through chemistry and physicality.”

The Wolverines are determined to regroup and build on the lessons learned from this game, emphasizing the need for improvement without losing sight of their potential.
