How's Cowboys' McCarthy Grade 'Clear Victory' Over Browns?

The Dallas Cowboys have begun their lame-duck season in positive fashion, after dismantling the Cleveland Browns 33-17 .

With a lot of attention on the Cowboys and pressure ramped up after yet another playoff exit, it was imperative that the team got out of the blocks fast—and boy, did they.

Head coach Mike McCarthy was happy with his team's overall performance in Week 1 but stressed there was a lot to clean up.

“We come in here all the time, it seems like we talk about the things that didn't go well, but there's a lot that went well, and it resulted in a clear victory for us,” McCarthy said. “So I'm very happy with the start of the season. But we got details to work on, we got a lot of work to do.”

One of the areas that the Cowboys will have to clean up is penalties (yes, those again).

While Dallas only had four in the first half (two on the first two drives), in the second half, things unraveled a touch, and the Cowboys ended the game with 11 penalties.

McCarthy made his feelings clear about the constant laundry on the field.

"The thing that comes out of it is you want to play cleaner football," McCarthy said. "We had way too many penalties. I think the game in itself, who the hell wants to watch a game or be part of a game [that] has 20 penalties in it?"

While it was only one week, the Cowboys know that there is plenty to clean up ahead of Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints, who dropped 47 points on the Carolina Panthers.

But starting the season with a win while having areas for improvement is a good spot to be in, and it sure beats the alternative.
