Kirk Herbstreit's Message For College Football Fans After Big 'College GameDay' News

ESPN's "College GameDay" has been a tradition on Saturday mornings for decades for several college football fans.

The flagship show of ESPN, featuring analysts Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Nick Saban, was in Ann Arbor, Mich., for a top-10 showdown between the Michigan Wolverines and the Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns ended up dominating the game, winning 31-12.

On Tuesday, ESPN's public relations account announced some significant news. The show attracted 2.2 million viewers, marking a 26% increase compared to Week 2 of the 2023 season. Additionally, the final hour of the show garnered 2.9 million viewers.

Herbstreit sent a message to college football fans after the big numbers. Herbstreit tweeted, "Appreciated CFB fans' passion for the game!"

The show featured Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time and a Michigan alumnus, as the celebrity guest picker. It concluded with Corso putting on the Longhorn mascot helmet to signify his game pick.

This week, the crew is heading to South Carolina for an SEC showdown between the Gamecocks and the LSU Tigers. It'll be the first time "College GameDay" is at South Carolina in 10 years . The game will take place on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at noon ET on ABC.
