Top 10 Wemby? San Antonio Spurs Center Tops NBA 100 List

Every year during the dead period of the NBA offseason, rankings, mock trades, and season previews sweep the media landscape, as injuries, games, and player quotes pretty much grind to a halt. For the last several seasons, the San Antonio Spurs have had players included in the top 100 lists, but never near the top.

That ended this summer, as Victor Wembanyama made his presence felt. After finishing as the unanimous Rookie of the Year, second in Defensive Player of the Year voting, made the All-Defensive First Team, and won a silver medal, it's safe to say that he's one of the better players in the world, and HoopsHype's top 100 players in the NBA for the season confirmed that.

In their recent ranking, Devin Vassell came in at 76, and Victor Wembanyama cracked the top 10, ahead of Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and and Stephen Curry. Anthony Davis was ninth, just one spot ahead of Wemby.

According to HoopsHyps, "He should be that dominant on both ends of the floor. He’s got a great mentality, too, really seeming to value winning over personal glory, as evidenced by his reaction when his French national team fell to Team USA in the gold medal game at the Olympics this summer."

Only four American-born players cracked the top ten.

While most rankings have Wembanyama somewhere between 20-30 for their preseason predictions, they all admit that he could end the year as a top-five player if all goes well. HoopsHype leans into his high stock and expects him to be a top-20 offensive player as well as a top-two (and not #2!) defensive player.

The hype surrounding Wembanyama might be getting out of hand, but so far in his young career, he is yet to fall short of a challenge.
