Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb revealed on Tuesday, September 10, during an appearance on Kay Adams ' “ Up and Adams Show ” that he was fully prepared to sit out of games if his contract dispute wasn’t resolved before the season began.

Lamb, who recently signed a massive four-year, $136 million extension, which includes a $38 million signing bonus—the largest ever given to a wide receiver—and $100 million guaranteed, admitted that his holdout throughout most of the offseason was an attempt to secure a long-term deal.

The Cowboys had exercised Lamb’s fifth-year option, but his absence during training camp and the preseason sent a clear signal that Lamb wanted more than just a one-year guarantee.

In a one-word response, Lamb made it clear he wouldn't have taken the field without a new contract.

When Adams asked if Lamb would have shown up for Dallas' Week 1 game against the Cleveland Browns without the deal in place, Lamb simply replied, "No."

Lamb’s new deal now makes him the highest-paid wide receiver in Cowboys' history and the second-highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, earning $34 million per year, just behind Justin Jefferson's $35 million.

Since entering the league , Lamb has been nothing short of stellar. He posted three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in 2021-23, including a record-breaking 2023 campaign where he shattered Cowboys records with 135 receptions and 1,749 receiving yards.

Lamb wasted no time justifying his new contract, helping Dallas secure a 33-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns in Week 1.

He finished with five receptions for 61 yards and added three rushes for 25 yards, proving he’s ready to continue his dominance in the NFL.

As Lamb continues to solidify his place among the league's elite receivers, his new deal ensures the Cowboys' future remains bright.
