The only SEC matchup in Week 2 took place in the Bluegrass state, with the Kentucky Wildcats facing off against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Despite being favored, the Wildcats were dominated by the Gamecocks.

In a 31-6 victory, South Carolina held the Wildcats to just 183 total yards of offense, including only 44 passing yards. Kentucky struggled with discipline, turning the ball over twice and committing 11 penalties during the game.

A caller on " The Paul Finebaum Show " asked the SEC Network analyst if it was time to be concerned about head coach Mark Stoops and if it was time to move on from him. Finebaum thinks it's a little early for that, citing Stoops' 74-66 record and winning 10 games just a few seasons ago. But he did say that the loss is inexcusable and people should be concerned.

"I would be concerned," Finebaum said. "That was inexcusable. It doesn't matter if you like or dislike Mark Stoops. We've seen way too many games like that."

Finebaum mentioned in an interview that Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart and President Eli Capilouto appear to be very pleased with Mark Stoops. Finebaum concluded that he doesn't think Saturday's result really changes that. He also mentioned that Kentucky has committed Stoops, so he's unsure if they would make a move anytime soon.

If Kentucky manages to pull off a major victory this weekend, Stoops has the opportunity to win back support from the fans. The Wildcats will face the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs on ABC on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
