The San Francisco 49ers emerged from their Week 1 victory against the New York Jets mostly unscathed, a relief for fans and players alike as the team looks to build on its success moving forward. During head coach Kyle Shanahan’s conference call on September 10, 2024, he confirmed that the only injuries reported were those previously mentioned, giving a sense of continuity as the 49ers prepare for their next matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.

Shanahan addressed the status of wide receiver Jauan Jennings and guard Aaron Banks , stating both players are day-to-day due to an ankle injury and calf contusion, respectively. Notably absent from Monday's game was running back Christian McCaffrey, who is dealing with calf and Achilles issues. Shanahan remarked, "I believed if it was a playoff game, he would have played," clarifying that McCaffrey's Achilles issue is tendinitis, which requires careful management.

This decision highlights the team's focus on long-term player health over immediate needs, especially given the early stage of the season. “When you hear that type of stuff, and it’s not a playoff game, and it’s Week 1… it was a tough decision, but hearing all the words and stuff, in the long run, it made it easy,” Shanahan explained.

Additionally, safety Talanoa Hufanga, who is working his way back from an ACL injury sustained last season, has a chance to participate in upcoming practices, but the final decision will depend on his progress throughout the week. Shanahan noted, “We won’t make that decision until later in the week, so hopefully he has another good week.”

The 49ers could also see defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos and linebacker Dee Winters return to practice this week, yet their availability remains uncertain as they continue rehabilitation. “They’ve got a big day today, just seeing how they go,” said Shanahan, indicating a cautious approach to the players' injuries.
