ESPN Makes Big 'Monday Night Football' Announcement

Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season concluded with a Monday Night Football contest between the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets, with the Niners picking up a 32-19 victory.

There were quite a few storylines surrounding this game, such as Aaron Rodgers' return from a torn Achilles, and San Fran playing for the first time since their crushing loss in Super Bowl LVIII against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Per usual, the game aired on ESPN, and it's safe to say they had quite a few viewers tuning in for the action. The day after the game, the sports media behemoth revealed that the game averaged 20.5 million viewers, which was the second-highest average for a Week 1 game in ESPN's history of broadcasting Monday Night Football games.

These are some pretty huge numbers, although it's not a total surprise considering the hype surrounding both of these teams heading into the game.

And even though it didn't live up to the billing, it didn't matter for ESPN's broadcast, as they still managed to keep viewers entertained throughout the game.

Monday Night Football always features some of the best games of the season, and while these are already some huge numbers, it's safe to assume that they will continue to draw in millions of viewers for these contests throughout the year.
