Kyle Anderson Practicing for PG Duties?

    By Lance Roberson,

The Golden State Warriors' defense improved upon acquiring Kyle Anderson in a sign-and-trade deal during the 2024 free-agency period. However, in a team based on players getting open for 3-point shots, Anderson must find a way to coexist with one of the greatest shooters of all time, Stephen Curry. A photo that surfaced on social media suggests Anderson is looking to improve his ball-handling skills.

According to Synergy Sports metrics, Anderson finished the last season as a below-average offensive player. Moreover, Anderson's shooting is easily his least favorable basketball skill. Anderson shot an ice-cold 42.6 effective field goal percentage, and it's a deeper issue as 79.3 percent of his jump shots occurred on wide-open looks.

However, shooting the ball isn't everything. There is a reason why Anderson played crucial minutes for the Minnesota Timberwolves last season, and it's not only his defense on Luka Doncic.

Anderson recently worked out with Dallas Mavericks point guard Kyrie Irving and New York Knicks All-NBA guard Jalen Brunson. Perhaps he's working on pick-and-roll sequences in which he's the ball handler. Anderson could be a "Great Value" version of  Draymond Green handling the ball or working with Curry and Buddy Hield in dribble handoff sequences.

If Anderson can relieve Green from such duties, Steve Kerr's staggering the Warriors starting big with Curry will be manageable.

Even if Anderson doesn't develop any pseudo-point guard skills, his cuts, post-up plays, and working as the roll man in the pick-and-roll all cater to his strengths.

Mike Dunleavy Jr. balanced the roster with Anderson, as he's adequate on offense, allowing Kerr to play the forward in the postseason, and can body opposing superstars.
