Report: Bears WR Rome Odunze could miss Week 2

The Chicago Bears could be without rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze for their Week 2 Sunday Night Football matchup against the Houston Texans.

Odunze appeared to injure himself on the team's final offensive drive on Sunday at Soldier Field against the Tennessee Titans in the Bears' 24-17 victory .

On Monday, head coach Matt Eberflus said Odunze appeared to get rolled up on while blocking on a screen play for Velus Jones Jr. late in the fourth quarter.

The receiver stayed in for one more play but then hobbled to the sidelines with a knee injury.

According to ESPN Chicago's "Waddle and Silvy" on Tuesday, Odunze initially "checked out fine" after the game but then his knee reportedly felt worse when he woke up on Monday.

"It is a Grade 1 MCL sprain," Marc Silverman said.

In what could be much worse, it's an injury that won't keep Odunze out for a lengthy amount of time. The Bears haven't yet announced his injury designation ahead of Sunday night's game but it would be surprising to see the rookie play.

"The person I talked to said, as of now, they’re not totally ruling him out. I would be shocked if he plays; it’s a game on turf, but I think that is a better indicator than what we were wondering yesterday and on pins and needles," Silverman said.

If Odunze doesn't play, the Bears will turn to Andre Carter and Tyler Scott to step up in the third spot on the depth chart behind Keenan Allen and DJ Moore.
