Jerry Jones Puts Cowboys QB Dak Prescott on Notice After $240 Million Deal

The Dallas Cowboys have paid Dak Prescott and expect a high return on their investment.

Prescott and the Cowboys agreed to a record-setting $240 million contract just hours ahead of the team's opener against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Prescott's extension includes $231 million guaranteed and made him the highest-paid player in NFL history. His $60 million average is now the high mark among quarterbacks.

With Prescott and his top receiver, CeeDee Lamb, locked in with new deals, the conversation now turns to expectations. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes it's Super Bowl or bust.

"Any time that we've ever made players the highest-paid player, key players, such as Troy Aikman, the most highest-paid player in the game, we won Super Bowls," Jones said during an appearance 105.3 The FAN in Dallas.

The Cowboys have not won the Super Bowl since 1995. Dallas hasn't been to the NFC Championship in nearly 30 years. Prescott has just a 2-5 record in the postseason.

That's not to say Jones regrets the deal. He hopes Prescott will be the quarterback in Dallas for a long, long time — even beyond 2028 when Prescott's new contract is set to expire.

"The figure is right, and the figure is... what it means is a big commitment to next five years, to our future if you will. There's a lot of me that thinks I hope Dak is our quarterback for the rest of my time, so that's not just limited to the terms of this contract either," Jones said shortly after the deal was announced. "I got a lot of confidence in him. He's got a lot of, brings so much to the table. He's a player that the team follows. That's big."

Prescott's new era started out on the right foot, with the Cowboys dominating the Browns 33-17. Prescott passed for just 178 yards and a score but didn't need to do much more thanks to Dallas' dominant defense.

First off Jerry dud not have to give Prescott all that money, he good but not that great, over 4 years and he has not won a big playoff game. What Jerry should have did was sign Henry who signed with the Ravens who don't know what the fuck to do with the MAC TRUCK RUNNING BACK. BUT ILL GET TO THAT ELSE WHERE. JERRY IN ORDER FOR DALLAS TO WIN A SUPERBOWL MODERN DAY, YOU NEED A YOUNG BIG STRONG RUNNING BACK THAT CSN MOVE THE PILES. YOU DONT HAVE THAT, THIS TEAM IS THE SAME OLD DALLAS TEAM FROM LAST YEAR, THAT GOT MOLESTED BY MR LOVE AND GREEN BAY IN LAST YEARS ONLY PLAYOFF GAME. JERRY YOY NEED A RUN GAME TO BEAT GREAT TEAMS. THE PASS DIES IN PKAYOFF GAMES CAUSE DBACKS AND SAFTIES ARE TOO GOOD. OK OM WRITING THIS FOR MY COUSIN IN NORTH CAROLINA.
