Dan Quinn: Commanders Will 'Improve Significantly'

    By Adam Schultz,

The Washington Commanders didn't start the season in the way many had hoped after a positive offseason. They were blown out by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 37-20 at Raymond James Stadium.

But while it was a setback, the road the Commanders are on in terms of their rebuild means that the success will not be linear; there will be ups and downs.

Unfortunately, starting with a poor performance wasn't what head coach Dan Quinn wanted, but it is a teachable moment with plenty of lessons to learn.

However, Quinn firmly believes that the Commanders will improve significantly after the curb-stomping they received from Tampa Bay.

"We'll give Tampa the credit, but I think this team is going to improve significantly moving forward," Quinn said . "We're going to make sure we get the play style aligned exactly like we wanted."

The Commanders have another chance to put their best foot forward when they host the New York Giants in Week 2. With some calling the Giants one of the worst teams in football, it presents a chance for Quinn's team to put the Buccaneers' result behind them and take it out on New York.

It is also worth noting that Week 1 was the Commanders' first time with all starters playing a full game together, and with so many unscouted looks, naturally, things were going to be tough against a Tampa Bay team that has talent to burn on both sides of the ball.

For Washington, Week 1 wasn't ideal, but the best part about football is that it gets a chance to make amends for its horror showing in Tampa, give New York both barrels and put its first tick in the win column.
