'A Little Different!' Inside Turpin's Cowboys Punt Return TD

    By Adam Schultz,

The Dallas Cowboys had the Cleveland Browns rocked and stumbling after a brutal first half, and KaVaontae Turpin hit them with the knockout shot shortly after halftime.

With the Browns getting the ball to start the third quarter, Dallas forced a three-and-out, which had Cleveland backed up on its own goal line.

That meant a short punt for Turpin to try and finally score his long-awaited touchdown, and he did.

Turpin collected the ball at the Dallas 40-yard line , and before you knew it, he was zigging and zagging his way to the end zone.

“We've been searching for that for the last two years,” special teams coordinator John Fassel said. “We did a little something different with our punt return this year than we have in the past ... They hit a very returnable ball to Turp ... and we just capitalized on it. ...

"Week 1 was a great time to do it because hopefully it kind of leads into a little bit more.”

With Turpin getting close several times to finally breaking one off when he did in Cleveland, it was the knockout punch that ended the game as a contest.

His lightning speed has always been a factor in Mike McCarthy's use of him, and Turpin is more than just a special teamer; he's now a receiver, too.

But Turpin's true value is on special teams, and as we saw Sunday, if he's given the chance, he can take it to the house in the blink of an eye. The league knew how dangerous Turpin could be in the return game, and the Browns learned firsthand in Week 1.

Now we hope that this was the first of many for Dallas' No. 9 after years of trying to get that elusive return touchdown.
