Adam Silver 'Shuts Down' James Dolan?

New York Knicks team governor James Dolan is worried about local media deals. During the recent NBA media partnership negotiations, Dolan typed a significantly long letter, warning of the "perils" of losing out on local media. Adam Silver responded to such concerns at Tuesday's Board of Governors meeting.

"How do you view how the new media deal will affect RSNs moving forward," a reporter asked Adam Silver at the Board of Governors meeting.

"We discussed this extensively at our board meeting. The new media deal will undoubtedly have some effect on local deals... "I would just say, on the other hand, prior to us completing our national deals, 18 of our RSNs were [already] either defunct or in bankruptcy," said Silver.

Dolan has helped reach more Knicks fans who don't have cable with the latest media venture in the Gotham app. The Gotham app will stream the New York Yankees, Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, and all the area NHL teams, which will be available on one service as YES and MSG Networks launch the Gotham Sports App.

Silver stated that the RSN model was inconsistent, as not all teams, specifically the Knicks, have the TV market strength of New York.

Regardless of what Dolan thinks or wants, the NBA has moved on from the RSN model. The Phoenix Suns and the Dallas Mavericks are the latest teams to provide free access to their games for local fans.
