Tigers’ Game Plan: Casey Mize on the Mound

The Tigers are riding high after Keider Montero’s complete-game shutout, and tonight, they'll turn to Casey Mize to keep things rolling. Mize has been reliable in his last three starts, surrendering only six earned runs across 16.2 innings. As the Rockies’ offense has been shaky, Mize will be aiming to pile on their struggles. Look for him to dominate the Rockies’ lineup while continuing his streak of at least four strikeouts in his recent home appearances.

Offensively, Detroit has been clicking on all cylinders. Riley Greene has been a revelation at the plate, notching homers in three of his last five night games against National League opponents. Greene’s been lighting up the scoreboard, and if he can keep up his form, the Tigers' offense will have no trouble putting runs on the board.

Rockies’ Game Plan: Rookie Tanner Gordon's Uphill Battle

The Rockies have a different story to tell. After a tough stretch of games, rookie Tanner Gordon is stepping up to the plate—literally—trying to secure his first win in eight starts. However, his 7.55 ERA doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. Gordon’s biggest challenge will be containing Detroit’s surging offense and proving he belongs in the majors.

Colorado’s Ryan McMahon has shown some life offensively, particularly in night games against winning teams, but he’ll need help from his teammates if the Rockies hope to compete. That said, the team’s trend of hitting the under in seven of their last eight games means they’ve been inconsistent at best, especially away from home.

    Predictions

With momentum on their side, Detroit is heavily favored to take this one. Mize’s steady form and Greene’s offensive prowess spell trouble for Colorado’s rookie pitcher. Expect the Tigers to continue their strong run at home, while the Rockies try (and likely fail) to mount a comeback.

    Score Prediction : Tigers 5, Rockies 2

    Recent Trends

    • Tigers : Seven of Detroit’s last eight games have gone under the total runs line. Casey Mize has hit four or more strikeouts in his last three home starts, and Riley Greene has been a menace with the bat in night games.
    • Rockies : Colorado has been on the losing end of seven of their last eight games, and their offense continues to sputter. While Ryan McMahon has been a bright spot, he’s been unable to lift the Rockies to consistent wins.

It’s shaping up to be another tough night for Colorado, as Detroit seems poised to keep rolling toward another win.
