I would be the first to acknowledge and concede that these two weeks have been puzzling at best for LSU. How does a Tigers defense allow Nicholls to find the end zone even once, let alone multiple times?

How do the Tigers let USC rack up 447 yards of total offense in the opener? These are flaws in Blake Baker’s defensive scheme first and foremost. However, the heat and negativity around Brian Kelly continues to intensify with each passing hour. The glare of College Gameday is awaiting Kelly’s program this Saturday in Columbia. Before kickoff between the Tigers and Gamecocks, let’s analyze the frustrations and harsh realities that come from being under the microscope.

    Frustration #1

Kelly can’t win the big game?

Reality : He’s the winningest head coach in Notre Dame history, and in case that’s too far back for some of you to time travel, you might just go back a few years ago when Kelly upset #6 Alabama.

    Frustration #2

We would’ve been better off with Les Miles?

Reality : In what universe are we talking about? Les Miles allowed the doormat of the SEC (Arkansas) to defeat the Tigers and in doing so, qualify for a bowl game back in the day.

    Frustration #3

LSU has no chance of qualifying for the 12 Team Playoff.

Reality: When the contest vs Ole Miss on October 12th goes final, you’ll feel differently. Additional home victories over Alabama and OU will catapult the Tigers into a worthy playoff seeding.

In closing, the realities of the next three weeks. First up are the Gamecocks who only managed 114 yards through the air last week in barely escaping Old Dominion. UCLA is a different program as Chip Kelly took his playbook and went home. Enter first year head coach Deshaun Foster, who’s also in his first year facing new teams from the Big Ten. Finally, there’s South Alabama. Their claim to fame is that they’re being coached by Baton Rouge native, Major Applewhite. They’re already in the basement of the SBC West and that’s not changing anytime soon.

Opportunity will once again be knocking at Brian Kelly’s door, and I have every reason to believe he’ll be there to answer.
