Morten Stig Jensen from Forbes recently discussed the challenges that the Memphis Grizzlies may face in the 2024-25 NBA season. While the Grizzlies are bringing back their key players like Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and Jaren Jackson Jr., Jensen highlights the steep competition in the Western Conference and the critical issues Memphis might encounter on their path to success.

Grizzlies face tough competition in the Western Conference

Jensen notes how competitive the West has become, stating that "the Grizzlies will likely find themselves in tough games against most of the teams in that conference." While Ja Morant's return brings hope, the depth and strength of other Western Conference teams mean that Memphis will have to fight hard in nearly every game. The team will be up against some of the best players and rosters in the league, leaving little room for error.

Injuries and lack of shooting could impact Memphis

Jensen further points out that the Grizzlies' injury issues might continue to plague them. He mentions, "It doesn't help that Jackson is out due to a broken foot," referring to GG Jackson, who is expected to miss a significant portion of the season. This compounds the team's concerns, as injuries hurt Memphis last season and may do so again. The absence of consistent outside shooters is another significant issue, with Jensen emphasizing, "the Grizzlies still seem to be shy some necessary shooting, as to best flank Morant."

Ultimately, Morten Stig Jensen suggests that while the Grizzlies have the talent to be competitive, several critical challenges — including injuries, shooting limitations, and stiff competition — could prevent them from regaining their position among the Western Conference elite.
