FRISCO — 14 former Dallas Cowboys had their names listed in a group of preliminary nominations for the Seniors category for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The list has a total of 183 names that will be trimmed down to a group of 50 over the next few weeks.

Other names include Ed "Too Tall" Jones, Lee Roy Jordan, Herschel Walker, Billie Howton, Ralph Neely, Ray Donaldson, Cornell Green, Everson Walls, George Andrie and John Niland.

Players whose last season was 1999 or before are eligible for consideration for the Seniors list.

Of the potential nominees, three represent a majority of the Cowboys' top five all-time sacks leaders. Martin (114), Jones (106) and Andrie (98.5) represent the second, fourth and fifth place spots on that leaderboard.

Meredith, a staple of the early success of the Cowboys, currently stands sixth in franchise history in passing yards.

The chances of earning the famed bust and entry into the Hall of Fame dwindle with age, but the Cowboys certainly have some solid candidates that have considerable accolades.

Beyond those marks, they represent the foundational history of one of the most storied franchises in the NFL.
