The first couple of weeks in the college football season have certainly garnered a few surprises in the Heisman Trophy race. Georgia quarterback Carson Beck and Oregon signal-caller Dillon Gabriel were two of the early favorites before the year alongside Texas QB Quinn Ewers.

Through two weeks, all three remain in the conversation, and Ewers helped himself with a massive win over Michigan in Ann Arbor. However, Joel Klatt mentioned one running back who could sneak his way onto the Heisman stage in New York when it's all said and done: Boise State's Ashton Jeanty.

"Ashton Jeanty, the running back from Boise," Klatt said.  "This guy is a legit NFL back...He's one of if not the best running back in all of college football and he's No. 3 on my Heisman list right now."

Klatt had Jeanty as the only non-QB on his Heisman list, which is as follows:

    1) Quinn Ewers, QB, Texas

    2) Cam Ward, QB, Miami (FL)

    3) Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State

    4) Miller Moss, QB, USC

    5) Carson Beck, QB, Georgia

The Boise State running back as a Heisman contender is certainly a valid argument. He has an NCAA-leading 459 yards with nine scores. The nine touchdowns are three higher than the next RB on the list, UCF's RJ Harvey.

It has been just two games, but he had 267 yards with six(!!!) touchdowns in the opener against Georgia Southern and then gashed Oregon in Eugene for 192 yards and another three scores.

Boise State QB Maddux Madsen has just two passing scores all year, and backup RB Sire Gaines has one, so Jeanty has been a workhorse for the Broncos and the focal point of the offense.

If he keeps it up at this rate, it will be difficult for Jeanty not to be a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.
