Klay Thompson continues to feel welcome by the Dallas Mavericks fans and organization, both on and off the court. The sharpshooting guard, who made waves this offseason by signing a three-year, $50 million contract with the Mavericks, is now set to participate in Dirk Nowitzki’s sixth annual charity tennis event.

It was confirmed on the Ben & Skin Show that Thompson will participate in the event, which is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14. The charity tennis tournament, organized by the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation, has become a staple in the Dallas sports community since its inception.

This news comes on the heels of Thompson’s recent gesture that caught the attention of Mavs fans everywhere—showing up for a workout wearing a throwback Dirk Nowitzki jersey. The former Golden State Warrior is fully embracing the rich history and culture of his new team.

Thompson’s admiration for Nowitzki isn’t new. When the Mavericks retired Nowitzki’s jersey in a game against the Warriors in 2022, Thompson had nothing but praise for the Big German. Now, he’ll have the opportunity to support Nowitzki’s charitable efforts in person.

The event will also likely feature current Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic, who has been prominently featured in promotional materials. This gathering of Mavericks past, present, and future is sure to be a treat for fans and a boost for Nowitzki’s foundation.

For Thompson, this charity event is another step in his integration into the Dallas community. After four NBA championships with the Warriors, he’s hoping to be the missing piece in the Mavericks’ championship puzzle. The team made an impressive run to the NBA Finals last year before falling to the Boston Celtics, and the addition of Thompson’s elite shooting could be the extra firepower needed to push them over the top.

As Thompson prepares to showcase his tennis skills for a good cause, Mavericks fans are undoubtedly excited to see their new star player fully embracing the team’s legacy and community. With the NBA season on the horizon, this charity event could be the perfect warm-up for what promises to be an exciting year of Mavericks basketball.

Dallas Basketball will be at Nowitzki’s event this weekend, so stay tuned for more in-depth coverage.
