Stanford earned a much-needed win on Saturday, beating Cal Poly 41-7. This was the team's first home win in nearly two years. The Cardinal now sits at 1-1 and will hope its success on Saturday can carry over to the beginning of conference play in the ACC.

"Phenomenal job. We talked about all three phases for four quarters," Taylor said. "Unbelievable job. Very proud of you guys, how you continued it. A lot of great things."

Taylor also praised the defense for being "disruptive" and holding Cal Poly to 2-9 on third downs in the game. The game ball went to defensive coordinator Bobby April and his staff after the Cardinal held the Mustangs to just 13 first downs on Saturday.

Any win is an accomplishment, but Cal Poly is an FCS opponent, and Stanford's schedule will only become more difficult moving forward. This week, the Cardinal hits the road to face a 2-0 Syracuse team surging off a win over Georgia Tech.
