Victor Wembanyama Leads NBA 2K25 In Appropriate Category

NBA 2K is the premier basketball video game on the market. While fans can complain about in-game purchases, the multiplayer mode, and lazy changes made to My Career mode, it's still hyped up every year as the best game on the market, and it consistently sells. As the season ramps up, the game franchise releases detailed player rankings that are updated throughout the season.

Victor Wembanyama is a 91 overall, good for 18th in the league. His defense rating came in at only 80, although he is underrated on the perimeter. Near the rim, he is dominant, earning a 99 overall block rating.

He is the only player to get a 99 in that category. Walker Kessler (97), Mo Bamba (93), Chet Holmgren (92), and Daniel Gafford (92) round out the top five. Interestingly, Rudy Gobert, Anthony Davis, and Brook Lopez, who were among the best shot-blockers in the league, did not make the cut and only Lopez is in the top ten out of those three All-Defensive players.

Going into the season, it's clear that Wembanyama is the runaway favorite to lead the league in blocks for a second straight season. He has by far the best odds to win Defensive Player of the Year according to the major sportsbooks and will anchor a much-improved Spurs' defense.

According to Basketball-Reference, Wembanyama is expected to average 4.2 blocks per game next season, which would be the tenth-best single season of all time. If Wembanyama can post those defensive numbers and improve his offensive game, expect him to receive a fair share of MVP votes.
