    Jeremy Sochan Euro-Step Ready?

    By Lance Roberson,

The murmurs of Dennis Rodman fall on Jeremy Sochan. However, aside from the hairdo, which seems to change color every season, the defensive production hasn't matched the all-time great. Video footage showcased Sochan focusing on offense to help the San Antonio Spurs become a balanced roster and also provide Victor Wembanyama relief.

Although Sochan's shooting numbers don't cause any sense of excitement, his athleticism should. The Spurs forward heads into his third season with reason to improve, as Harrison Barnes offers competition at power forward. While Sochan has the youth, Barnes has the experience and is a better shooter in nearly every scenario except dunks and hook shots.

Considering the disadvantages in Sochan's game, especially compared to Barnes, doubling down on athleticism and his explosive first step bodes well for the Spurs forward.

During the workout, he practiced scenarios in which a trainer played light defense on Sochan. In the footage, Sochan worked on euro steps, splitting defenses by dribbling right rather than transitioning left and spin moves to the left.

With Wembanyama on the team, relying on put-back dunks betrays his training. However, creating offense without Chris Paul's assistance will only benefit Sochan.

The more Sochan can do with the ball, the more it alleviates Wembanyama's pressure from defenses and theoretically helps space the floor, stretching the star center to the 3-point line.

Sochan is working on his game, but will he preach what he practices during the 2024-25 season?

Considering Popovich experimented with the athletic forward at point guard in short stretches, Sochan's moves to the basket will likely see the light of day.
