Jordan Chiles' Eye-Opening Admission About Fallout From Olympics Controversy

There’s no question the last four weeks have taken an emotional toll on Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles after she was stripped of her bronze medal after a series of decisions from the International Olympic Committee and Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The 23-year-old gymnast took a few weeks away from social media and kept a low profile while staying out of the public eye as she processed, grieved and worked on her mental health, and she only recently addressed the controversy for the first time publicly at the Forbes’ 2024 Power Women’s Summit on Wednesday.

In an interview with Moira Forbes, Chiles broke down in tears as she admitted she felt like everything had been stripped away along with her medal before making an eye-opening admission about what she was going through in the days after the IOC and CAS made their respective announcements.

“I just felt like there wasn’t a lot of people supporting me who I thought that could support me in that situation and help me and it didn’t feel like it,” Chiles said . “It felt like I was really left in the dark.”

It’s not known if Chiles was referring to a lack of support from those in her inner circle, but based on the context of her remarks — and the fact that both USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee have been rigorously appealing Chiles’ case to the Swiss Federal Tribunal — one would assume Chiles is referring to the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and how it’s handled the situation.

Nearly three weeks ago, FIG president Morinari Watanabe issued a statement about what transpired during Chiles’ score inquiry at the 2024 Paris Olympics during the floor exercise final and the days after.

Watanabe blamed the score inquiry controversy on the lack of technology put in place by FIG and called what happened to Chiles a tragedy, but there was no taking of accountability, no public apology, and FIG did nothing to intervene on Chiles’ behalf to get her medal back.
