Stephen A. Smith Reveals One NFL Organization Makes Him ‘Sick’

ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith didn’t hold back when revealing the one NFL team that makes him “sick” during Thursday’s September 12 edition of ESPN’s "First Take."

Smith, like many NFL fans, watched each team’s performance during Week 1, but his disgust with this team isn’t due to their on-field play. It stems from how the organization’s owner has treated one of their star players, leading Smith to say he wants them to "lose every single damn game they play."

Smith is furious with Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown for not paying wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, who has been seeking a contract extension all offseason.

"I hope that the Cincinnati Bengals fall flat on their damn face," said Smith. "That organization makes me sick."

The two sides were reportedly "close to an agreement" before Week 1, with a four-year deal worth $140 million, but negotiations fell apart due to disagreements over when Chase would receive his guaranteed money and injury protections in the deal.

Chase adopted a "hold-in" strategy during his contract negotiations with the Bengals this offseason.

While he skipped voluntary OTAs, Chase reported to mandatory minicamp and training camp but limited his participation, signaling that he wanted a new deal. Despite his efforts, no agreement was reached before Week 1.

Chase suited up for the Bengals’ Week 1 matchup against the New England Patriots, catching six passes for 62 yards, but the unresolved contract situation still has Smith livid.

"This is an organization that spent years having fans wear bags over their heads," Smith said. "Ja'Marr Chase is one of the top receivers in the National Football League. Are we going to deny that?"

After a disappointing 16-10 loss at home to the Patriots to start the season, the Bengals are left struggling to find momentum, with Chase's future with the team still uncertain.
