The New York Jets' contract saga with linebacker Haason Reddick has been far from smooth, and now, a report on Thursday, September 12, suggests that the worst may still be ahead for the team.

Reddick, drafted 13th overall in 2017 by the Arizona Cardinals, has developed into one of the league's premier pass rushers. He previously played for the Cardinals and spent two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he consistently excelled.

Over the past four seasons, Reddick has recorded at least 11 sacks each year , along with 13 forced fumbles during that same stretch.

Traded from the Eagles to the Jets in March 2024, Reddick has held out of training camp in hopes of securing a contract extension beyond his current $14.25 million salary.

Despite accumulating fines , he has not returned to the field, and contract talks with the Jets have stalled, leaving NFL insiders speculating that the Jets may have no choice but to trade him.

"Not sure they have a choice," an NFC executive said in an ESPN report . "They wouldn't get similar value back, but it would be hard to pay him at this point, and he clearly doesn't want to be there."

The Eagles traded Reddick to the Jets for a 2026 third-round pick, which can become a second-round pick if he reaches 67.5% of playing time and records at least 10 sacks.

Reddick is currently the 19th-highest-paid pass rusher in the NFL, with an average annual value of $15 million.

For comparison , Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers—the NFL's highest-paid pass rusher—is earning $34 million per year, with three other players right behind him making at least $28 million annually.
