Should Giants Trade for Former Jets QB?

As the New York Giants continue to evaluate their quarterback options following a rough start to the season, one name that has surfaced is former New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson.

Currently sitting third on the Denver Broncos' depth chart behind Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham, Wilson could become an expendable trade chip, and some analysts believe the Giants should consider acquiring him.

The speculation arises after Daniel Jones’ lackluster performance in the Giants' Week 1 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, where he completed just 22 of 42 passes for 186 yards, threw two interceptions, and had a pick-six. With Jones’ struggles mounting, and his record as the Giants’ starter standing at 22-37-1, the search for a long-term quarterback solution appears to be intensifying.

Bleacher Report suggests that the Giants could make a move for Wilson, who was drafted second overall by the Jets in 2021 but was traded to Denver earlier this year after failing to meet expectations in New York.

Wilson’s tenure with the Jets was less than stellar, featuring an 11-21 record as a starter, 23 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions. Yet, despite these numbers, Knox argues that Wilson could be a low-cost gamble for the Giants, likely requiring no more than a late Day 3 draft pick. With Drew Lock as the current backup, the Giants might look to bolster their quarterback room if Jones continues to falter.

While a trade for Wilson remains speculative , the Giants must assess their options quickly. As they prepare for a crucial Week 2 matchup against the Washington Commanders, a decision on whether to stick with Jones or explore alternatives like Wilson could shape the team's season trajectory. Meanwhile, the Jets prepare to head to Tennessee to face off against the Titans in a fellow AFC battle.
