Should Giants Trade for Broncos QB Zach Wilson?

    By Austin Givan,

Following a tough Week 1 outing for quarterback Daniel Jones, the New York Giants are being urged by some analysts to consider a change under center.

In the wake of Jones’ underwhelming performance—22 completions on 42 attempts for 186 yards, two interceptions, and a pick-six against the Minnesota Vikings— Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox suggests the Giants explore trading for former New York Jets and current Denver Broncos quarterback Zach Wilson.

Knox, in his "2024 NFL Trade Block Big Board" feature, argues that Wilson, who has fallen to third on the Broncos' depth chart behind Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham, could be an expendable asset for Denver.

Wilson, a former No. 2 overall pick by the Jets, has had his own struggles, with a career record of 12-21 and more interceptions (25) than touchdowns (23) over three seasons in New York. However, with the Broncos' new quarterback depth, he might be available for a relatively low price—a late Day 3 draft pick or a pick swap.

The discussion comes at a critical time for the Giants , who, despite having Drew Lock as an experienced backup, are looking at potential long-term solutions at quarterback. Jones, who signed a four-year, $160 million extension in March 2023, has yet to deliver the expected results, posting a 22-37-1 record over six seasons.

While there is no indication that a move will happen before this Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders, the Giants' management may be weighing their options. With Jones’ future uncertain, New York could start considering alternatives, especially if the offense continues to underperform.

Even so, the likelihood of Wilson -- the league's worst quarterback a year ago and an afterthought in a bad Denver offense -- being an upgrade is slim.

If New York does pursue Wilson, it may signal a broader shift in their strategy to find a franchise quarterback who can consistently compete in the NFC East. As speculation continues to swirl, all eyes will be on Jones and the Giants’ front office as they navigate a potentially pivotal season.
