Report: Timberwolves sign veteran guard to training camp deal

The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed a veteran guard who hasn't played for an NBA team since the 2020-21 season.

NBA insider Michael Scotto reported earlier this week that the Wolves signed Chasson Randle to an Exhibit 10 deal.

The deal is essentially an invite to training camp with a chance he can earn a spot on the roster.

Randle, 31, has previously played for the Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knicks, Washington Wizards, Golden State Warriors and Orlando Magic. In 119 career games, Randle has averaged 5.7 points, 1.8 assists, 1.4 rebounds and 0.5 steals per game, averaging 16.1 minutes played per game.

He also was invited to Denver Nuggets training camp in 2022 but didn't make the final roster.

The guard has played the past two seasons with various teams in multiple leagues.

That includes the New Zealand Breakers in Australia's National Basketball League during the 2021-22 season; the Grand Rapids Gold in the NBA G-League during the 2022-23 season; the Oklahoma City Blue in the G-League in 2023; Leones de Ponce in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional league in Puerto Rico in 2023; and most recently AEK Athens in Greece last season.

There's no guarantee Randle makes the final roster for the Wolves as he'll be competing for playing time with Rob Dillingham, PJ Dozier, and Daishen Nix, among others. If he performs well during preseason play however, he could earn himself a guaranteed deal with Minnesota.

NBA Training Camp kicks off on Oct. 1. The Timberwolves' first preseason game is against the Los Angeles Lakers at Cyrpto.com Arena on Oct. 4. The Wolves will then open the regular season against the Lakers on the road on Oct. 22.
