CJ Stroud Makes His Opinion of Caleb Williams Extremely Clear Before Bears-Texans

Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud burst onto the NFL scene as the Offensive Rookie of the Year in his debut campaign. Now, No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams is looking to do the same as starting signal caller for the Chicago Bears.

Stroud and Williams are set to face off against each other in a primetime Week 2 matchup between the Texans and Bears on Sunday night.

Ahead of this highly-anticipated matchup, Stroud was asked what he thinks of Williams' game.

“He’s definitely a playmaker, somebody who can expend plays and make all the cool throws, a tough player, takes hits,” Stroud said. “And [he’s] really just really talented, so I definitely do think that he has great things coming in his career and I definitely do think he’ll get his rhythm going.”

Williams struggled in his NFL debut, completing 14 of his 29 pass attempts for just 93 yards. Despite his lackluster production, the Bears took down the Tennessee Titans with a 24-17 final score.

“It takes time. It’s not something that happens overnight,” Stroud added. “You can see in every quarterback this week, I think, except for probably Baker Mayfield who looked really good, everybody’s kind of rusty trying to just get those cleats out and get that rust away. And I think quarterback play will start picking up Week 2, Week 3, Week 4, just like every year. So, I definitely think he’ll get his rhythm.”

Stroud even extended some advice to Williams before Sunday night's game.

“Understand whatever got you here is just good enough,” Stroud said. “You don’t have to be a superhero. You don’t have to try to make all the plays. Sometimes, the boring plays are good. But yeah, that’s the advice I would give to him.”

The Bears and Texans will kickoff at 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday.
