Paul Finebaum Reveals Colorado’s Chances of Making a Bowl Game This Season

The Colorado Buffaloes suffered a disappointing loss on Saturday in their most crucial game of the season. They were outplayed by their former Big 12 North rival, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 28-10.

The most concerning thing might not have been just that the Buffaloes were dominated. It might have been that the two programs appear to be headed in different directions. Colorado dominated Nebraska last year in Deion Sanders' first year as head coach and Matt Rhule's first year as head coach at Nebraska.

You anticipate growth in Year 2 from both teams, but Rhule's team seems to be on the rise, while Colorado doesn't look much different from last year .

During his radio show, a caller asked ESPN's Paul Finebaum whether he had more faith in Colorado or Auburn, who also suffered a bad defeat this past weekend, to turn things around this season. Finebaum expressed his belief that Auburn has a better chance of making a turnaround and will make a bowl game, while he doesn't think the same will happen for Colorado.

"Auburn will get to a bowl game and has a chance to turn the program around," Finebaum said. "The Buffaloes do not."

In the remaining schedule, Colorado faces a challenging path to secure five more wins. Out of their final 10 games, four are against currently ranked opponents. The benefit is that three of those four games will be played at home.

However, that doesn't include a game at Kansas, which was ranked last week before losing to Illinois, or a game against Colorado State this weekend, which took them to double overtime last year in Boulder.

The Buffaloes and Rams will play on CBS on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
