'It Didn't Look Good': Tua Tagovailoa & Damar Hamlin Collide

    By Mike Fisher,

SEPT 12 HAMLIN INVOLVEMENT Tua Tagovailoaexited the 31-10 Thursday night win by the Bills after suffering a concussion on a third-quarter hit by Damar Hamlin. No one involved did anything especially violent ... just horrible misfortune for Tagovailoa ...

And for Hamlin? Some irony, of course.

It was impossible to not note Hamlin's involvement here and then to avoid thinking of the Bills safety's cardiac arrest following a similarly "normal'' hit in a January 2023 game in Cincinnati.

"The Tua situation, it didn't look good,'' Bills coach Sean McDermott said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with him.''

SEPT 10 DISGUSTING! U.S. Olympian and track star Noah Lyles has recently gained NFL-related attention due to various footrace challenges. But this ... is different.

Lyles is responding to the police body cam of Hill being pulled over and detained by Miami police for speeding outside Hard Rock Stadium before the Dolphins' Week 1 season opener on Sunday.

Tyreek's view? "If I wasn’t Tyreek Hill, Lord knows, it could have been worst-case scenario,'' he said.

Lyles' view? "Disgusting. Tyreek said something very important In his post game interview. What if it wasn’t him." Lyles said. "This is what they do to us when they feel they might get in trouble. What do you think they do to us when they know they won’t get in trouble."

Hill is set to lead the 1-0 Dolphins against the 1-0 Bills this week on "Thursday Night Football.''

SEPT 10 FIRE 'EM! The Bills play the Dolphins on Thursday, a showcase game if only for the football. But the football won't be all that is discussed this week.

Tyreek Hill's police involvement on Sunday morning was released via body cam video of the wide receiver's controversial detainment that included him getting handcuffed.

The video appears to show an officer growing upset when Hill would not keep his window rolled down, at which point the Dolphins receiver was taken out of his car, handcuffed, and moved to the ground, face-down, as he debated with officers.

Dolphins teammate Jalen Ramsey is among the many who are speaking out about the video.

"FIRE EM IMMEDIATELY!" Ramsey wrote of the officers seen in the video, adding that police "like them can’t have no type of power; they gotta go!"

SEPT 6 'BOYS TO BILLS? The good people at Bleacher Report are at it again, God bless 'em, giving their work a very official-sounding title - " BR NFL Scouting Department (!)'' - but coming up empty when it comes to logic.

They are projecting that the Bills in 2025 figure to pursue Zack Martin of the Dallas Cowboys, who is Hall of Fame-bound when his career is over.

Hey, any team would be interested. Martin is entering his age-33 season, and remains a stud. But as B/R suggests that maybe the cap-strapped Cowboys will let him go so he can "ring-chase,'' they're absent insight.

One, the Cowboys can create ample cap room next year if they wish; indeed, a "Blow It Up'' scenario following this season - with Dallas' roster bloated with guys on expiring contracts - is in play to do just.

And two, as CowboysCountry.com has reported, Martin is considering retirement after this season. So ... Buffalo, don't hold your breath here.

SEPT 4 DEPTH The Bills don't have Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer starring at safety anymore. So, it seems according to the team's Week 1 depth chart ... it's Damar Hamlin's turn.

Hamlin, 26, is widely recognized as the player who suffered cardiac arrest on the field in 2022. Some view his rehab as a miracle.

But now? Hamlin is surely ready to be viewed as a football player ... and he's got his name on the depth chart to prove it.

SEPT 4 MATT'S FIT? The Chiefs' signing of punter Matt Araiza was billed by some as a risk. Either way ... it's paying off now, as KC's special-teams coordinator Dave Toub is raving about the Bills ex.

"He’s a great person, great guy to be around. He fit right in right away," Toub said.

Araiza was drafted by the Bills in 2022 but was then dumped amid rape charges that were later established to be unfounded.

And now, the "Punt God'' is playing for the Super Bowl champs.

"He’s got to remember, he’s a rookie, and it’s going to take some time. There’s going to be some growing pains,'' Toub said. "He’s going to continue to get better as we go. We anticipate that, but I’m excited about his prospects."

The Chiefs play host to the Ravens to open the NFL slate on Thursday night.

AUG 27 GORE CUT It has been an emotional run. And maybe it’s not over yet.

But for now, Frank Gore Jr. is an ex-Bill, as he failed to make the 53 man roster… Being one of those who have been cut by Buffalo at today’s deadline.

Gore, who had a productive summer, is of course the son of Frank Gore Sr. Buffalo cut in theory recall Gore back to the practice squad later.

UPDATE: Gore has since been re-signed by the team.

AUG 26 WRS READY? The Bills have injury issues, no doubt. But coach Sean McDermott seems to be crossing his fingers in a positive way on receivers Curtis Samuel and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

“I feel like those two, from what I’ve heard so far, have a real good chance'' of playing in Week 1,'' he said.

McDermott added that he's "not committing to it yet,” but he is clearly hopeful that Samuel (turf toe) and Valdes-Scantling (neck) might be able to go in the opener against visiting Arizona.

AUG 15 BIGGEST WORRY? The AFC is loaded with scary skill position guys.

Is New York Jets receiver Garrett Wilson atop the list when it comes to Bills defensive concerns?

He's posed back-to-back 1,000+ yard seasons ... and that was without Aaron Rodgers .

Could Wilson be set for an even bigger type of season in 2024?

"Wilson is already considered a star-level player, but we're talking stratosphere levels of leap here," CBS Sports wrote . "The No. 1 receiver in Aaron Rodgers offenses always puts up monster receiving lines, and Wilson is as talented as anyone Rodgers has ever played with. He could have a Davante Adams-type season."
