The Miami Dolphins lost their “Thursday Night Football” matchup with the Buffalo Bills 31-10, but they also lost more than just the game.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa left the game in the third quarter after taking a hard hit to the head from Bills safety Damar Hamlin on a fourth-down run up the middle. Tagovailoa’s body stiffened as he laid on the turf as his right hand balled in the air, possibly signaling he lost consciousness.

The social media response to the incident was somber, with several analysts and media pundits weighing in on what happened to the 26-year-old signal-caller. Among those that shared their thoughts on Tagovailoa’s injury was former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III, who said what seemingly everyone was already thinking.

“Really just praying for Tua’s long term health,” Griffin III said. “Another concussion puts him at 3 officially and countless other scares. Think of the person not just the player.”

Though Tagovailoa ultimately walked off the field under his own power and went straight to the locker room, the Dolphins confirmed he suffered his third concussion in the last three seasons.

Though Tagovailoa took up judo last season to learn how to protect his head when falling and he played at a higher weight in 2023, he slimmed down heading into this season and this is his first head injury since the 2022 season.
