Twins' No. 2 prospect Emmanuel Rodriguez placed on IL again, ending his season

The highs and lows for Minnesota Twins prospect Emmanuel Rodriguez have been extreme this season.

The organization's No. 2 prospect and MLB's No. 19 prospect has been placed on the seven-day injured list, effectively ending his 2024 season.

Bobby Nightengale of the Star Tribune reports it's a right thumb sprain.

On the Saints' transaction page, it states that Rodriguez was placed on the seven-day IL on Sept. 2. However, that may be an error as Rodriguez was assigned to the Saints the same day, getting the promotion from the organization's Double-A affiliate Wichita Wind Surge.

Rodriguez's most memorable moment with the Saints came in the form of a inside-the-park grand slam as his first Triple-A homer.

The 21-year-old outfielder has climbed from the Twins' Single-A affiliate to the Triple-A team this season alone. In 157 at-bats, Rodriguez hit .280/.459/.567 with an OPS 1.026, adding nine home runs, nine steals and 27 RBI.

He's been dealing with the same thumb injury all season, missing 47 games as a result.

With only 209 plate appearances this season, the organization may have Rodriguez get some more at-bats in winter ball but that's all speculation for now.
