Talking About His Team, Aaron Rodgers Gives Perfect Advice for the Ducks and Duck Fans

The New York Jets had preseason hype this season in a down division, and the return of four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers was a big reason why.

Monday night the Jets crashed and burned in a 32-19 road loss to the 49ers. Rodgers struggled too, 13-21 passing for 167 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Tyrod Taylor, 6-8 with a TD pass, had better stats in mop-up duty.

Still, Rodgers has won a Super Bowl. He's dated Shailene Woodley and Danica Patrick. With 40 microphones in his face he's pontificated on everything from Covid-19 to Robert Kennedy Jr. to 9-11 conspiracies. He beat Mr. Wonderful and astronaut and Senator Mark Kelly in Celebrity Jeopardy.

So it wasn't surprising when the 65,000-yard passer and future Hall of Famer had a unique perspective on a disappointing start to the season. Yesterday he told the New York media:

“I think at times people think the season is like you're out in the prairie or the desert and you're wandering around trying to find water,” Rodgers said. “But it's more like a nice slow bolero (slow ballroom dance) where we're just swaying with the music and reacting to whatever comes to us. Just trying to not get too high with the highs or too low with the lows, the league is a lot different than when I said relax years ago in that there's just so much more coverage that there's so much more opportunity for overreaction. So, I get it, we want to win, the fans want to win, the organization wants to win, but the process has to be the same."

--The start to Oregon's season has been one giant overreaction . National media built them up to dizzying heights. They were everyone's playoff bracket. On the opening Saturday of College GameDay Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard picked them to win the national title. Dillon Gabriel was the preseason Heisman favorite.

Now, everybody's talking about what's wrong with them and warning how badly their season will turn out. It's probably time to consider-- although not swallow whole-- Rodger's advice. The season is a slow dance. Trust the process, and try not to step on the foot of the fan in seat 12J.
