It will be a celebration this weekend at the Nebraska Cornhuskers football game.

Yes, the Big Red will be playing for its first 3-0 start since 2016, but the program will also be recognizing key pieces of the past.

The program will formally induct the 2024 Nebraska Football Hall of Fame class Friday night but will honor that group Saturday before the game against Northern Iowa.

This year’s class includes seven former Huskers:

    • Rex Burkhead (RB, 2009-12)
    • Jared Crick (DT, 2008-11)
    • Chris Kelsay (DE, 1999-02)
    • Terrell Farley (LB, 1995-96)
    • Tyrone Byrd (S, 1989-92)
    • Keven Lightner (OT, 1985-87)
    • Monte Johnson (DL, 1970-72)

Players have to have been an All-American or all-conference selection during their careers to be eligible for the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame ballot, and this year’s group features numerous accolades with remarkable production.

Burkhead ran for 3,329 yards and 30 touchdowns at Nebraska; Crick had 20 sacks and 30 tackles for loss; Kelsay tallied 135 tackles and 33 for loss; Farley racked up 105 tackles, 19 for loss and eight sacks; Byrd accumulated 11 interceptions and 209 tackles; Lightner was one of the anchors of the elite Nebraska rushing attacks of the mid-‘80s; and Johnson finished his career with nearly 80 tackles.

Four of them went on the play in the NFL.
