Paul Finebaum Didn't Hold Back When Criticizing SEC Head Coach

ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum didn't have any reservations when calling out Auburn Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze.

Finebaum recently joined Greg McElroy on Always College Football , discussing Auburn's Week 2 home loss at the hands of the Cal Golden Bears.

Finebaum questioned if Freeze even wants to be the head coach of the Auburn program.

“His demeanor isn’t great either,” Finebaum said. “I mean, I’ve been around Hugh Freeze once or twice down there, and he doesn’t really look like he wants to be there. I know that sounds like a bold statement, but I mean, there’s something going on with him.

“At least act like you want the job. Show some emotion. That’s my impression of being around Hugh Freeze.”

Freeze has amassed a 7-8 record since taking over as Auburn's head coach before the 2023 college football season. The Tigers had high expectations when they hired the former Liberty/Ole Miss coach — expectations that he's since failed to deliver on.

Freeze and the Tigers will welcome New Mexico for another home matchup at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Week 3. Then, the team turns its attention toward a brutal stretch of SEC matchups featuring Oklahoma, Georgia and Missouri.

Saturday's game against New Mexico will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET.
