    Warriors Want Jimmy Butler?

    By Lance Roberson,

After shedding Klay Thompson and Chris Paul's contracts, the Golden State Warriors positioned themselves to absorb superstar talent or a premium All-Star. In a recent podcast by Sam Amick, The Athletic reporter revealed that the Warriors are interested in Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler.

Butler has one guaranteed year left on his two-year deal. If Butler exercises his player option for the 2025-26 season, he'll earn $101.2 million as his prime years past the "Heat culture" star. Butler has led the Heat to the NBA Finals twice in four years.

It's worth noting that Amick mentioned the report on the TK Show , hosted by Bay Area sports media legend Tim Kawakami.

Butler turns 35 on Friday, putting the Eastern Conference star on the same timeline regarding seeking a championship with Stephen Curry.

However, Mike Dunleavy Jr.'s moves from the 2024 free agency and the offseason, in general, reflect that of a general manager not ready to let go of the youth on the roster. For such a deal to occur, the Warriors would have to dispose of Jonathan Kuminga and many other players and possibly add a third team to facilitate the blockbuster deal.

Of all the trades to make, trading for Butler at his advanced basketball age, with the added injuries, makes for a risky trade. Moreover, if the Warriors didn't want to unload youth for Lauri Markkanen, doing so for Butler makes a conflicting move for Dunleavy.

Considering who reported such a development, it's possible that Dunleavy received an update from the ownership to change course on the current objective for the season.
