Corey Seager, the former Dodgers shortstop and World Series MVP for the Texas Rangers, is facing a significant setback as he prepares to undergo season-ending surgery for a sports hernia on his right side. This marks Seager’s second hernia surgery in just twelve months. After being placed on the 10-day injured list due to hip discomfort on September 4, Seager's health became a primary concern, leading to this upcoming procedure scheduled to take place shortly.

Notably, Seager had previously undergone surgery in January for a hernia on his left groin, highlighting a troubling pattern for an athlete who has battled injury woes. Texas Rangers' general manager Chris Young emphasized that while the decision was challenging, it was vital for Seager's long-term health: "It made no sense… to finish out the season in pain where he could compromise himself or make himself worse."

On the field, Seager demonstrated impressive prowess this season, hitting 30 home runs and posting a .278 batting average, alongside a robust .353 on-base percentage and a .512 slugging percentage over 533 plate appearances. Despite a slow start attributed to his earlier surgery, he rebounded significantly, achieving a .290/.362/.569 batting line since May.

As Seager focuses on recovery, he aims to be fully ready for Spring Training, recognizing the importance of maintaining his health and fitness to avoid further complications in the future. "You can’t miss two off-seasons… It’s something that you need to have,” he stated regarding his commitment to long-term fitness.

With the Rangers currently holding a record of 71-76, the organization will look to build for the future, hoping that a fully recovered Seager can play a critical role in their efforts to bounce back next season.
