Kirk Herbstreit Tells College Football Powerhouse to Ignore Preseason Hype

The 2024 college football season is well underway, and there have been a handful of teams that have impressed fans, and another handful that have been unimpressive.

Despite the fact that they are still ranked ninth in the nation and have won both of their first two games, the Oregon Ducks have been one team that has had an unimpressive start to the year.

Everyone is wondering why Oregon hasn't looked as good as expected, but Kirk Herbstreit believes he may know the answer. According to Herbstreit, he thinks that Oregon has allowed the preseason hype surrounding them to get to their head, and he implored them to focus on winning games and not all the hype surrounding them.

“There’s been so much preseason hype with Oregon, I’m sure Dan Lanning is doing his best to get these guys to lock in, to respect the opponent. But they don’t look like they have the same fight that they had last year. It’s only two games, but I think they should stop listening and reading their press clippings and get focused on work." - Kirk Herbstreit, The Pat McAfee Show

It's tough to stay totally focused when you are expected to blowout a team, but Oregon is expected to be one of the top teams in the nation, so the fact they've struggled in this department is a bit concerning.

There's still time for them to turn it around, but Herbstreit is right to call the team out, and it will be interesting to see if they can put all the pieces of the puzzle together in Week 3.
