Chiefs Blockbuster Trade Pitch Lands Jets Pro-Bowl Edge Rusher to Pair With Chris Jones

The Kansas City Chiefs defensive front was better than good last season and showed out against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1, but the opportunity to get much better is starting the franchise directly in the face.

The pair of eyes looking back at the Chiefs front office belong to disgruntled New York Jets pass rusher Haason Reddick . He continues his holdout, as the Jets continue to refuse the two-time Pro Bowler the multiyear contract extension he seeks.

ESPN's Seth Waldor authored a three-team blockbuster trade pitch on Friday, September 13, between the Chiefs, Jets and Las Vegas Raiders that would see Kansas City land Reddick and give up defensive end George Karlaftis along with 2025 pick-swap in return.

Walder outlined the proposal as follows:

    • Chiefs receive: Reddick, 2025 sixth-round pick from Raiders
    • Jets receive: Raiders wideout Davante Adams
    • Raiders receive: Defensive end George Karlaftis, wideout Allen Lazard , 2025 fifth-round pick from Chiefs, 2025 second-round pick from Jets

"Kansas City is trying to three-peat and could upgrade from Karlaftis -- who had 10.5 sacks a year ago but has never come close to even an average pass rush win rate -- to Reddick, a bona fide disruptor, through just a pick swap and some added money," Walder wrote . "This is probably the most the Raiders would get for Adams, too, who has been subject of trade speculation for nearly a year."

At first glance, it appears that Chiefs and Jets would get exactly what they would want/potentially need out of the agreement, while the Raiders would be acquiescing to a quieter season of sorts by dealing Adams for a downgrade at receiver in Lazard, two 2025 draft picks in the late second and fifth rounds along with Karlaftis.

That said, if the two other teams can get Las Vegas on board, it clears a path to the Chiefs landing an elite edge rusher to pair alongside arguably the NFL's best defensive tackle in Chris Jones for several years to come.

Kansas City would be agreeing to take on several future years of contract for Reddick, at which the Jets and Philadelphia Eagles have balked in recent months, adding to the cost of the trade on the Chiefs' end.
