The Pittsburgh Steelers are no stranger to superstardom. From the trio of Ben Roethlisberger, Le’Veon Bell, and Antonio Brown to the dominance of edge rusher T.J. Watt and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, Steelers fans have grown used to icons.

Now, the Pittsburgh Pirates have one of their own.

Starting pitcher Paul Skenes wasn’t just the first pick, nor did he only dismantle minor league opponents. He was drafted No. 1 overall and made his MLB debut 303 days later, a tribute to his incredible talent and pro-ready profile.

Skenes has taken over the city, winning over the hearts of fans and embodying Pittsburgh’s hope. Such a role transcends his sport. On Thursday, he got to meet Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin when he visited practice.

“Much respect,” Tomlin told him. Congrats on your success, man. Keep living it. How are you enjoying it thus far, Pittsburgh? All the best to you, man. Big fan, much respect. I love your professional approach that I hear about on days that you work. How you go to the stadium, I love it. Respect.”

The pitcher also got to meet the face of the franchise, Watt, and took a jersey home with him.

The Steelers, meanwhile, will hope that their luck continues on Sunday when they visit the Denver Broncos .
