The Kansas Jayhawks are not having a terrific start to their 2024 season. They have now lost two of their first three games following a 23-20 upset to the UNLV Rebels at Children’s Mercy Park on Friday night. With Kansas football quarterback Jalon Daniels struggling in the passing attack, the Jayhawks' offense floundered anew.

Despite Daniels' troubles, though, Kansas head coach Lance Leipold remains confident in the quarterback.

"Leipold expresses complete confidence in Jalon Daniels moving forward and says he's not worried about Jalon's competitiveness, work ethic and attitude," reported Matt Tait of Wave the Wheat following the game.

Leipold refused to single out the quarterback or anyone on the team as the reason for the Jayhawks’ loss, opting instead to take a general approach to answering further questions about Daniels’ performance.

“Everybody can do better,” stated Leipold. “Everybody. And it starts with the head coach.”

The numbers, however, reflect a more direct assessment of Daniels’ night under center. Against the Rebels, Daniels passed for 153 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions on 12-of-24 completions. He has been picked four times already in the 2024 campaign and sacked three times over the last two Kansas football games.

After averaging 34.8 points per game in the 2023 season, the Jayhawks have mustered a total of 37 points over their last couple of outings.
