Indiana Fever Make Major Kelsey Mitchell Announcement After Aces Loss

Caitlin Clark stole the show on Friday, September 13. This is after the Indiana Fever rookie sensation set a new WNBA record for the most assists in a single season.

It wasn't just Clark who made waves in Indiana's 78-74 loss to the Las Vegas Aces, though. Her backcourt partner, two-time All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell, also made history in the same game.

For her part, Mitchell set a new mark for the most points in a single season in Fever franchise history. The veteran dropped a team-high 20 points against the Aces to up her tally to 733 on the season. Incredibly, the 5-foot-8 guard shattered her own record for the most points by an Indiana player in a single season.

The Fever made the big announcement via X, formerly Twitter, shortly after Friday's loss.

Unfortunately for Mitchell (and Clark), her historic evening came amid defeat at the hands of the two-time defending champions Aces. This is now Indiana's second straight loss to Las Vegas following their 86-75 defeat against the same opponent on Wednesday, September 11.

This loss has the Fever sitting on a 19-19 record. They are still sixth in the league and have a 1.5-game advantage over the seventh-seeded Phoenix Mercury with two final contests remaining in the regular season.

Mitchell, Clark and the rest of the squad return to action on Sunday to host the Dallas Wings for their last regular-season home game at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
